IGP Gyawaly to retire today, successor Thapa to assume office tomorrow

Kathmandu, July 8

The Nepal Police Headquarters is organising a special function on Wednesday afternoon to bid farewell to the retiring Inspector General Thakur Prasad Gyawaly.

Gyawali, who was appointed to the top position just in February, is retiring as he completed his 30-year service today. The headquarters is hosting a special function at 5 pm today to bid him farewell, according to an official in the headquarters.

The cabinet meeting held on Tuesday evening has already appointed Shailesh Thapa Chhetri as Gyawaly’s successor.

Thapa Chhetri will assume his office on Thursday morning. Before assuming his office, the government will confer the insignia of the position on him.

Meanwhile, AIG Tarini Prasad Lamsal and DIG Surya Prasad Upadhyaya are also retiring along with Gyawali today.
