Dhangadhi, May 23
Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa says he is committed to taking actions against police officials who are found to be protecting criminals including smugglers.
Thapa’s comment follows a statement by alleged gold smuggling racketeer Chudamani Upreti alias Gore, who was arrested from Kathmandu yesterday, that he smuggled many kilograms of gold in cahoots with and with the protection of police and airport officials.
But, Thapa says he will punish the officials.
Speaking at a function in Dhangadhi today, Thapa said only mules would be arrested whereas the real smugglers would get spared in the past. “But, now, I will make the bosses face the consequences. We have already begun it.”
In another context, Thapa said the country could not be developed unless crime was controlled.
