Kathmandu, July 17

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that individuals who force menstruating women to isolate in huts will be denied local-level facilities. He said circulars will soon be issued nationwide to implement this directive.

During a meeting with office-bearers of the Inter-Party Women’s Alliance in Kathmandu today, Minister Lekhak stated that the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration would be requested to take necessary action. “Superstition plays a major role in perpetuating menstrual discrimination,” he said, calling for the Alliance’s support in ending such harmful practices.

The Minister emphasised that the government is committed to combating all forms of violence against women, including sexual violence. “We are serious about ensuring women’s dignity, pride, prestige, and safety,” he said, assuring that perpetrators will be held accountable.

At the meeting, Alliance President Mamata Giri submitted a memorandum demanding an end to all forms of discrimination against women. The Alliance also voiced deep concern over the rising cases of violence and inequality faced by women across the country.

Minister Lekhak acknowledged these concerns and pledged government cooperation in advancing women’s rights and enforcing laws against gender-based discrimination.
