Kathmandu, August 27
Home Minister Sudan Gurung briefed an all-party meeting on the situation following the recent disaster. At the meeting held at Singha Durbar, Gurung said security agencies had been mobilised for rescue and security operations in tunnels and other sensitive areas.
“The scale of damage to infrastructure is extremely large, and collecting an accurate assessment of the damage has been challenging,” he said. He said efforts were underway through various channels and mechanisms to determine the exact number of casualties and people reported missing.
Gurung said the willingness expressed by all political parties and groups to mobilise volunteers was commendable and necessary. He further said, “It is necessary to form a special team to study, research and forecast risks that may arise from glacial lakes and mountainous areas in the coming days.” He also said a special team had been mobilised to restore communication and transportation links. The all-party meeting was held at Singha Durbar to discuss the situation following the devastating floods in Rasuwa.
RSP Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane, Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, RPP parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi and JSP Nepal leader Mahanta Thakur, among others, attended the meeting.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, RSP parliamentary party leader Ganesh Parajuli, RSP General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya, RSP Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti and RSP spokesperson Jagadish Kharel were also present.
