Kathmandu, August 4
The influence of the monsoon remains active across Nepal today, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of its average location near the country’s southern plains, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).
The Department said cloudy conditions are expected throughout the country due to the prevailing monsoon system. According to the forecast, light to moderate rainfall is likely in many hilly areas and a few places in the Tarai. In contrast, some high Himalayan areas may experience moderate rainfall and snowfall.
Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are expected in many hilly regions, while a few places in the Tarai are also likely to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning. The DHM said one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as the hilly and Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, may receive heavy rainfall.
Cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the country tonight. The Department has forecast moderate rainfall and snowfall at a few places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few locations in the Himalayan areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Many places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as across Madhesh Province, are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Similar weather is expected at a few places in the hilly areas of Karnali Province and the hilly and Tarai regions of Sudurpashchim Province.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Madhesh Province.
The Department has urged people in areas at risk of heavy rainfall to remain alert to possible debris flows, flooding, landslides and soil erosion. It also warned that adverse weather could disrupt daily life, agriculture, healthcare services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation, and advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins.
