The monsoon is currently affecting the entire country. The monsoon low-pressure line is positioned slightly north of its average location, closer to Nepal, over the western part of the country and around its average position over the eastern region.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said most parts of Koshi and Lumbini provinces, as well as the mountainous and hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, are generally cloudy.
The Madhesh Province and the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces are partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain is currently occurring in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the department, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Some areas of the mountainous region may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with snowfall also possible. Many areas of the hilly region are likely to receive moderate rainfall.
The department said the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, along with Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, will remain generally cloudy, while the Tarai areas of Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati provinces will remain partly cloudy.
According to the department’s weather bulletin, some areas of the country’s mountainous region may receive moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Many areas of the hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as some areas of the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.
Some areas of the Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as one or two areas of the Tarai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, may receive moderate rainfall. Heavy rainfall is possible in some areas of the hilly region of Karnali Province and in one or two areas of the hilly and Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, the country will remain generally cloudy. Some areas of the mountainous region may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with snowfall also possible. Many areas of the country’s hilly regions and the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some areas of the Tarai regions of Madhesh and Koshi provinces may receive moderate rainfall. Heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the hilly region of Karnali Province, and the hilly and Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Very heavy rainfall is possible in one or two areas, according to the department.
The department has urged residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions, warning that heavy rainfall could increase the risk of debris flows, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
The weather could also affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transport services, the department said, urging people to remain alert.
