Kathmandu, October 24

The Nepali Congress is still in a dilemma over the impeachment motion against CIAA Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki.

At the party’s Central Working Committee, only a handful of members have voiced their support for the motion.

So far, only four CWC members have stood in favour of passing the motion through the Parliament. At Monday’s CWC meeting, Dhanraj Gurung stood in favour of the motion, while at Friday’s CWC session Pradip Poudel had stood in support. On the first day of the CWC meeting (Thursday), Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma had stood in favour of the motion.

The Congress currently has a 74-member CWC. Leaders from the Ramchandra Poudel camp are saying that the party should not take a decision on the bases of strong emotions, while the camp under party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is taking the motion as a CPN-UML plot against the ruling coalition. Most of the leaders speaking at Monday’s meeting spoke against the motion, a leader said.
