Kathmandu, March 10

The government officials and traders have jointly said the country has sufficient foodstuffs for the next six months, assuring the public does not need to worry about any shortage due to possible obstructions in the supply system in the wake of the novel coronavirus infection across the world.

During a meeting called by the government to take stock of the situation in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the traders said they could easily make available the necessities for the next half year.

Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada told journalists after the meeting that the country’s current stock of medicines would suffice for the next four months. Though India initially restricted the export of 26 medicines and their ingredients, it later agreed to relax the restriction, he claimed. Khatiwada said, “There is no obstruction in the supply of goods from India. There is no need to hoard things.”

During the meeting, the traders requested the government to relax the obstruction at Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani customs points as the rate of spread in China was decreasing of late.
