Kathmandu, August 7
The government has announced the results of the first fortnightly bumper draw under its Taxpayer Incentive Reward Program for the first 15 days of the Nepali month of Shrawan.
A consumer who purchased goods worth Rs 250 from Shiva Krishna General Store in Punarbas, Kanchanpur, has won the Rs 1 million bumper prize. The winning coupon number is 007 315 254 493. The purchase was made on Shrawan 7.
Another 15 consumers have each won Rs 100,000. The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) announced the winners during a program held at the Ministry of Finance on Friday.
The incentive scheme aims to encourage consumers to ask for invoices when making purchases and to strengthen the country’s tax system.
The government introduced the program in the budget for the current fiscal year, and Friday marked the first prize announcement. Under the scheme, 15 consumers receive Rs 100,000 each every 15 days, while one consumer wins a Rs 1 million bumper prize.
To facilitate participation, the IRD launched a new website, prize.ird.gov.np, on Saturday. Consumers who make cash purchases of goods or services worth more than Rs 100 in a single transaction for personal use within Nepal and obtain an original invoice can upload their bill to the website to enter the draw.
The department said that QR code payments are automatically included in the reward system, meaning users who pay digitally do not need to upload their invoices manually.
According to the IRD, consumers who purchase goods or services worth more than Rs 100 using a bank or digital wallet QR payment should keep a copy of the payment transaction, as the transaction number itself will serve as the qualifying entry for the prize draw.
In the Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle announced the Taxpayer Incentive Reward Program to bring more taxpayers into the formal tax system and promote a culture of requesting invoices. Following the announcement, the Ministry of Finance approved the program’s operating guidelines in the final week of Asar.
Under the guidelines, one consumer will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000 (after applicable tax deductions) every day, while two consumers each month (through fortnightly draws) will receive a Rs 1 million bumper cash prize.
