Kathmandu, March 17

After finding that many traders were involved in black marketing creating the artificial shortage of essential goods in the wake of restricted border movements fearing coronavirus crisis, the government has decided to open some fair price shops.

Earlier, the government would operate such shops during the annual Dashain-Tihar festivals.

Interacting with lawmakers during a meeting of the Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Interest Committee in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, Minister for Commerce, Lekh Raj Bhatta, said the government-run companies, Food Management and Trading Company and Salt Trading Corporation, would operate such shops in the next few days. The shops would sell salt, sugar, rice, lentils, cooking gas and induction stoves among others, according to him.

In addition, the government would also operate mobile fair price shops across the country, Bhatta informed.
