Kathmandu, July 10

Chairman of the Public Service Commission Umesh Prasad Mainali has urged the government and lawmakers not to interfere with parliamentary bodies.

Mainali said that the only way the government could run smoothly was by leaving the constitutional bodies independent. Speaking at an event hosted by the Madhesi Commission, Mainali said that bodies such as PC, CIAA and Election Commission could only work efficiently if the government didn’t influence these constitutional bodies.

“We need to make sure that these bodies are left independent. The government should not be controlling these constitutional bodies,” he said. He also urged the government to carefully draft the Federal Public Service Act by making it inclusive. “Now is the time to make provisions for reservation. It needs to be done very carefully though,” added Mainali.
