Kathmandu, September 17

Following an excessive hike in the price of onions in the market, allegedly due to black marketing, the government has appealed to citizens not to buy them for the next few days.

Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has made the appeal claiming the consumers are highly likely to be cheated by the black marketeers currently.

It assures that the department has expedited action against the black marketeers, suggesting the price would come down soon.

“Onions are not essential commodities, so let’s boycott them for a few days,” the department’s Information Officer Rabindra Acharya says, “The traders have hidden them now. However, they will soon decrease the price lest they will rot.”

He claims the department has also told local governments and district administration offices to monitor market effectively.

The official says the public can complain with the authorities if they feel cheated.
