Govt kept education commission’s report secret, but members unveiled it

Kathmandu, December 4

Some members of the High-level National Education Commission that the government had formed in 2018 have made public the report of the commission on Friday.

The government had kept the report secret, but the members unveiled it expressing dissatisfaction to the government act.

Shyam Shrestha, Bimal Kumar Phuyal, Ram Swartha Raya, Krishna Prasad Paudel, Tanka Nath Sharma, Chakra Man Bishwakarma, Sushan Acharya, Sujan Babu Marahatta, Babu Ram Thapa, Laxman Sharma, Sadananda Kandel, Bidya Nath Koirala, and Min Bahadur Bista were members of the commission headed by Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel.

“We were confident that the report of the commission led by the minister would be made public. But, I don’t know if he could not or did not do it,” Koirala said while launching the report, “The prime minister had ordered for the commission’s formation, but he also did not pay attention.”

Likewise, another member Shrestha said the report was launched hoping it would support the government in its implementation.

The commission was formed on July 8, 2018, and it had submitted the report on January 6, 2019.
