Govt forms panel to probe Sindhupalchok bus accident

Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport

Kathmandu, December 17

The government on Tuesday formed a committee to investigate the bus accident in Sunkoshi rural municipality of Sindhupalchok district on Sunday. Fifteen persons had died in the accident.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport says joint-secretary Rajendra Raj Sharma, chief of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, will head the panel. The committee includes representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, traffic police and transport entrepreneurs as members. The committee has been given seven days to submit a report to the ministry.

The ministry’s move follows a meeting of top transport and security officials of the country, during which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli urged them to prepare a plan of action to control road accidents in the country.

Meanwhile, the ministry also formed another committee to study the causes of other recent road accidents in general, and recommend policy and structural reforms to minimise them.
