Kathmandu, December 15
At least 13 persons died when a passenger bus fell around 500 metres down the road in Chhakilo, Sunkoshi rural municipality-7 of Sindhupalchok district, around 80 km east of Kathmandu, on Sunday morning.
The bus (Ba 4 Kha 4468) was carrying pilgrims from Bhaktapur district of the capital who were returning from the Kalinchok shrine in Dolakha district. The other 18 passengers have sustained injuries and they are undergoing treatment at various health facilities including Dhulikhel Hospital in Kavre.
“A police officer has informed me that 13 bodies were recovered on the spot. The injured have been sent to different hospitals,” acting chief district officer Bhim Kanta Sharya confirms.
Police inspector Ganesh Khanal in the district informs that the bus fell around 500 metres down the road at around 8:15 this morning. Police and locals rescued the injured.
This is the third big traffic accident in the district in the past few months.
