Kathmandu, December 23
The government has introduced a proposal to build an international convention centre in Chobhar on the southern outskirts of Kathmandu. The government, however, has clarified that it does not have any fund for the project, hence called bankers to invest in.
During a meeting in Kathmandu on Monday, Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, the Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, said the convention centre could attract a different group of tourists who could come to Nepal for conference and convention purposes.
“The project might cost Rs eight to 10 billion. Please invest in, the government will facilitate,” Adhikari said, adding the government also wanted to build two five-star hotels nearby.
He also urged the bankers to invest in physical infrastructures in touristic regions such as Rara and Khaptad.
In response, the banks said they were not interested to invest in the convention centre project on their own. However, they maintained they could provide loan to potential investors.
