Kathmandu, September 8

Young people from the new generation (Gen Z) are staging a protest in Kathmandu against corruption, mismanagement, and the government’s decision to ban social media.

Gathered spontaneously at Maitighar Mandala, they are demonstrating placards with slogans that reads, “ Stop ghosting democracy,” “Where is our tax,” “Enough is Enough,” “Democracy dies when leadership never retires,” “People’s Money, People’s Right,” and others.

Along with carrying placards, they have also expressed commitments during the protest: not to break trees and plants, not to damage public property, not to engage in arson or vandalism, not to issue threats, and to act in a civil and responsible manner while standing for citizens’ rights and freedom.

The anger that was once limited to social media posts against the government and political leaders has now been brought onto the streets by the Gen Z generation.

Similarly, the Gen-Z protest is also happening  outside Kathmandu in places like Dang, Butuwal and Pokhara.

Gen Z has received support from various political parties, elected representatives, artists, professionals from different fields, and independent youths.
