The first event Interprovincial Council meeting held in Kathmandu on Sunday has been the central focus of all major Nepali and English broadsheet dailies published from Kathmandu on Monday. The newspapers have covered the issue from different perspectives. Meanwhile, the endorsement of the government’s nomination of four persons for the appointment as Nepal’s ambassadors to various countries has also received significant attention from the broadsheet editors and reporters today.

The rape and murder of Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur district continues to be one of the most discussed issues in the newspapers as police have not concluded the investigation yet. They have stories over the case today as well.

PM, CMs discuss challenges of federalism

During the Interprovincial Council meeting yesterday, the chief ministers briefed the federal government about a host of problems they have been facing in day-to-day governance and effective implementation of federalism, according to reports in Rajdhani, The Himalayan Times, The Kathmandu Post and Republica.

In response, the Prime Minister expressed his own dissatisfaction over the problems, reports Naya Patrika. He also urged the chief ministers not to doubt the government’s intention of implementing the new system well, Gorkhapatra adds.

All ambassador nominees endorsed unanimously

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Sunday unanimously endorsed Nilamber Acharya, Udaya Raj Pandey, Krishna Prasad Dhakal and Anjan Shakya for their appointment as Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Malaysia, UAE and Israel respectively, according to newspaper reports.

Earlier, the panel had conducted hearing with the nominees yesterday. During the session, the nominees had briefed the lawmakers about their plans after the appointment.

Police moots special investigation team for Pant murder case

Investigators of Nepal Police have claimed they narrowed down the probe into the five-month-old case and are hopeful about cracking the mystery soon. In this context, the government is preparing to form a special investigation team with a broader mandate if the DNA tests of recent suspects fail to guide the probe further, reports Naya Patrika.

On the other hand, Rajdhani in its anchor story has expressed doubts over the success of the ongoing probe.

Officials of Nepal’s Central Zoo are worried as many of their captives are living without their mates or families, Gorkhapatra reports in its anchor story.

The zoo administration has been appealing to the international community to help it address the issue, but progress is nominal, the report informs quoting its Chiranjibi Pokharel.

Four hour delay of NAC flight frustrates passengers

According to a snippet in Nepal Samacharpatra, a Doha-Kathmandu flight of Nepla’s national flag carrier airline got delayed by four hours on Sunday as the aircraft’s crew missed bringing a document while taking off the Kathmandu Airport.

The aircraft was scheduled to land in Kathmandu at 9:40 am, but it landed at 1:43 pm only, according to the report.

Qatar opening service centre in Nepal to help migrant workers

The Kathmandu Post reports in a brief story that Qatar has sent a proposal for opening a service centre in Kathmandu for catering to Doha-bound Nepali workers. Nepal, however, has sought more details on the issue.

The Nepal government has already sent a letter to the Qatari government via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeking information on the objective of such service centre and how it will operate, informs the report.
