Four reasons why you should go plant some ‘rice’

The Monsoon season has officially begun in Nepal. Although city denizens would associate the rain with muddy roads, and traffic snarls, the rain serves as a reminder for farmers that the paddy plantation season is upon them.

After the rainy season begins, farmers prepare saplings for the big day, and on a designated day invite friends and family over to their field. The gathering is special in many ways as it keeps alive a tradition that has been passed from generation to generation.

So why should you attend this gathering? We have four reasons.

 1.

Learn teamwork

The transplanting process requires lot of teamwork. You need to coordinate with your fellow participants to ensure that you are doing it the right way. While you work, strike a casual conversation, and it won’t be long before things become interesting. Talking about mundane things could help you de-stress.

2.

Good exercise

While the work may seem pretty easy, it is difficult to plough the field. But if you are up to the challenge, it will give good exercise to your muscles. After a good workout session, don’t you love it when you can sleep like a baby at night?

3.

Photo Op

A photo of you working on the field could be a good addition to your collection. But do not be too fussy about the photos, remember to savour the experience!

4.

And lunch is served

According to to tradition, the hosts prepare something to eat for the participants. While the food you get to eat may not be fancy, you enjoy it lot more than any gourmet after a gruelling session on the field. The food tastes a lot better if you have a good company!
