A team of former lawmakers has moved the Supreme Court against the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill.

Filing a writ petition against the Bill, the lawmakers have pointed that the amendment proposal is against Article 274 of the Constitution of Nepal.

The writ petitioners include vice-presidents of Former Lawmakers’ Club Bishnu Raut and Jhalak Nath Wagle. Raut is a former CPN-UML lawmaker from Udayapur, whereas Wagle is a former lawmaker from Jajarkot.

Other petitioners include general secretary of the club Shankar Sharma and Nepali Congress leader from Saptari, Brahmadev Yadav.

Former member of the National Assembly Sharda Pokharel as well as advocates Bimal Gyawali and Amar Raut have also signed on the petition.

The petitioners have pointed that the Cabinet decision to split the Hills and the Tarai is unconstitutional and against national interest. They have requested the court to stop this through an interim order.
