Former King Gyanendra Shah not to celebrate Dashain this year

Kathmandu, September 22

Former King of Nepal, Gyanendra Shah, says he will not celebrate Dashain festival this year.

In particular, he says he will neither visit shrines of goddess Durga nor receive and offer Dashain Tika and Jamara.

The former monarch says he has taken the decision not to observe the major festival considering disasters caused by recent floods and landslides in various parts of the country.

Besides, he needs a rest for some weeks, he says in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Shah has wished for wellness of Nepalis in the statement.

Despite the fall of monarchy, Shah had been visiting major temples of goddess in Kathmandu Valley on the day of Mahaashtami every Dashain. He would offer Tika and Prasad to visitors from his private residence on the day of Vijaya Dashami.
