Kathmandu, November 28
Former AIG Ganesh Raj Rai, who joined the Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Party a few years ago, has quit.
Rai, in a statement on Tuesday, said that he will no longer be involved in politics. “I realised that there is a big difference between expectation and reality. At Naya Shakti, we believed that there should be rule of law and leaders should function under a system. But even as we advocated for discipline and ethics, we could not establish these ideals. That is why I have decided to quit politics,” Rai said.
Rai played an important role in the Baburam Bhattarai-led Kathmandu road expansion drive. He said that he will continue to contribute to the country as a member of the general public.
“Although I have left Naya Shakti, I will continue to make use of the skills and knowledge I gained while I was with Nepal Police to contribute to nation-building,” he said.
