FNJ marking World Press Freedom Day by organising its general assembly

FNJ-Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 3

Nepal and other countries in the world are celebrating the World Press Freedom Day 2016 by organising various programmes. This year’s celebrations lay stress on giving people access to information and securing their rights.

Coinciding with the day, the Federation of Nepali Journalists is organising its general assembly. Journalists from around the country have gathered at Ratnanagar, Chitwan, for the assembly.

President Bidhya Bhandari is inaugurating the assembly.

Nepal’s recently-promulgated Constitution and the one promulgated after the democratic movement of 1990 have guaranteed press freedom.

But full press freedom remains on paper, journalists say.
