Flood swept rhino brought back to Nepal

Chitwan, December 17

A rhino which was swept away by the flood in Rapti river has been brought back to Nepal.

The female rhino aged around 20, has been brought back to Chitwan National Park (CNP) from India last night.

The rescue was initiated by a joint team of National Nature Conservation Fund and CNP who have been rescuing rhinos which have been swept away to India.

CNP Chief Conservation Officer Bed Kumar Dhakal shared that it took time to rescue the rhinos because some are far from Nepali territory. “We were able to rescue this rhino because it came closer to Nepali land,” he adds.

CNP sources say that there are still two more rhinos in India. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked India to return the rhinos.

The rhino rescued was released nearby Tamor Lake along the CNP at around 11.00 pm.
