The tourism business in the small town of Sauraha in Chitwan district, near the Chitwan National Park, is gradually reviving after the devastation caused by floods around two months ago.
Entrepreneurs in the area have launched individual and collective efforts to reconstruct destroyed structures and bring tourists back to the town.
There were more than 100 hotels and restaurants were in operation in Sauraha before the floods.
Meanwhile, businesspersons have also called on the government to improve the Narayangadh-Muglin road, connecting Sauraha and Kathmandu, citing the bad condition of the road has adverse impacts on their business.
“We are reviving, but yet to receive as many tourists as expected,” a hotelier Suman Ghimire says, “There are fewer tourists due to obstructions along Narayangadh-Muglin road.”
Another entrepreneur Purna Rijal says the number of domestic tourists visiting the town during Dashain vacation was much fewer than that of past years. He says the road was the sole cause of the problem.
