Kathmandu, July 21

Today marks the first Monday of the month of Shrawan. A large number of devotees have gathered at the Pashupatinath Temple and other Shiva temples across Nepal.

During the month of Shrawan, devotees observe fasts every Monday and offer milk and water at Shiva temples.

Mondays in the month of Shrawan are considered highly auspicious. This year, there are four Mondays in the month of Shrawan. On each Monday, men and women observe fasts and worship Shiva.

According to religious belief, performing such rituals is believed to bring eternal good fortune, fulfilment of desires, and family peace, prosperity, and happiness.

To facilitate smooth worship arrangements, all four gates of Pashupatinath Temple were opened from 3 AM this morning.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust estimates that around 500,000 devotees will enter the main temple for darshan (sacred viewing) throughout the day.

Starting this year, the Trust has arranged free bus services along the Ring Road (Chakrapath) for those coming to Pashupatinath on Shrawan Mondays. Four buses will circle the Ring Road, providing transport for devotees. This service will continue for all four Mondays of Shrawan.

Additionally, the Marwari community has arranged for free meals for devotees visiting Pashupatinath. This food service will continue not only on Mondays but also on other days of the week.
