Family appeals for support for Musician Deepak Thapa’s treatment

Kathmandu

The family and relatives of noted Nepali singer and composer Deepak Thapa have appealed for financial support for his medical treatment. Thapa, who is also a member of the band The Prism, is currently suffering from Stage 5 chronic kidney disease. According to his family, he requires dialysis three times a week.

Doctors have advised that a kidney transplant is necessary for his recovery. Born in Bhairahawa, Thapa spent his childhood in Hong Kong, where he studied classical guitar at the Tom Lee Music Centre. In Nepal’s music scene, he is known for popular songs such as “Bidesh Jane Mayalu Timilai” and has composed and arranged music for several hit tracks. He has also contributed creatively to the song “O Mero Priyatam,” sung by Sukmit Gurung.

Due to his prolonged illness, Thapa has not been able to remain active in music as before, making it difficult for him to manage treatment expenses, the family said. Despite his condition, the family shared that Thapa remains positive and determined, with hopes of returning to music after recovery. In this situation, his family, relatives, and well-wishers have urged music lovers to support him, noting that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference in his treatment and kidney transplant.

A fundraising campaign for his treatment is currently being run through GoFundMe by the Calgary Magar Association, Alberta, Canada.
