Kathmandu, August 18
The Election Commission has urged family members and other concerned individuals to update the voter records of deceased voters.
Election Commission Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai made the request through a press statement. The commission has been regularly updating the voter roll to keep it accurate, up to date, reliable and objective.
After the death of a voter, a family member or any other individual can notify the concerned election office as soon as possible, along with the death registration certificate, to have the voter record updated.
“Updating the voter roll is the basis for ensuring the integrity, fairness and credibility of elections,” the statement said.
The collection and updating of voter lists has been ongoing since Chaitra 22, 2082 BS, following the election held on Falgun 21, 2082 BS.
Individuals with a National Identity Card can register their names on the voter roll online using their national ID details. Nepali citizens who are not enrolled in the National ID system must fill out an online form through the Election Commission’s pre-enrolment system and physically visit the concerned provincial or district election office to provide their biometric details, including a photograph and fingerprints.
The commission has also made arrangements for online applications to correct names, surnames and addresses in the voter roll; transfer a voter’s name to a more convenient polling location when there are two or more polling stations within the same ward; correct voter details according to their citizenship certificate; and remove duplicate entries.
