Kathmandu, March 9
Vote counting under the first-past-the-post (direct) system from last Thursday’s election has almost been completed, while the proportional representation vote count is still ongoing.
According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the Commission is working with the goal of completing vote counting by March 19 (Chaitra 5) and issuing certificates to lawmakers elected under the proportional representation system.
After the proportional vote count is completed, the Commission will determine the number of lawmakers each party is entitled to based on the votes received by parties that cross the required threshold.
The Commission will then send formal letters to political parties, asking them to recommend the names of lawmakers to be elected under the proportional representation clusters, ensuring representation as mandated.
