Egg production gradually increasing in Dang

Tulasipur (Dang), November 5

The production of eggs is increasing in Dang in recent years. Earlier, around 5,000-6,000 cartons of eggs were produced in the district daily, but it dropped to 1,000 cartons for a few years due to a lack of an appropriate market. Now, the district has started producing more than 2,500 cartons of eggs daily after poultry farmers organised and engaged in the market of the eggs they produce. President of the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association, Dang, Ishwor Prakash Shrestha, shared, “We were compelled to sell eggs at a low price due to a lack of unity among the farmers. This forced us to endure losses for a long time.”

Egg production has started increasing gradually following the unity among farmers, he underlined. Each carton contains 210 eggs, he added. There are more than 900,000 layer chickens in the district. Association Secretary Rabindra Bikram KC mentioned that more than 150 farmers are associated with the Association. More than 45 new people join the poultry business every year. Out of egg produced in Dang, 20 per cent or around 500 cartons of egg is consumed in the district daily while the remaining 80 per cent is exported to other districts.

A depot has been operated in Tulasipur in collaboration between Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association and Nepal Egg Trading Pvt. Ltd to make market of egg systematic. Central President of the Association, Binod Pokharel, opined that a depot has been run for the marketisation of eggs through a one-door system, as a situation has surfaced where farmers are selling eggs at a lower price than the cost price. The price of one egg is Rs 19.12.
