Kathmandu, October 11
Former Prime Minister and President of Samajwadi Party Babu Ram Bhattarai has asked Nepalis not to disrespect Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Prior to Xi’s visit, people have been tearing down posters and putting up derogatory statuses on their social media accounts.
Bhattarai has urged people to stop doing that and follow the mantra atithi devo bhava (guests are gods).
“Let us follow the mantra and welcome President Xi with open arms. This is the first time in 23 years that a Chinese president is coming to Nepal. We should be welcoming him, not disrespecting him,” Bhattarai said in a tweet.
