Dog used in drug trafficking: Brown sugar found on ‘Rocky’

Biratnagar, May 30

Police have discovered that a dog was used in the trafficking of illegal drugs. The method came to light following the arrest of 24-year-old Prashant Bhandari of Urlabari Municipality-4 on Thursday.

Bhandari had taken a dog named ‘Rocky’ to the border market area of Jogbani on Thursday afternoon and returned with it around 5 pm the same day.

Although no drugs were found on Bhandari during a search, authorities discovered illegal substances hidden in a belt tied around the dog’s neck.

According to Morang Police Spokesperson DSP Bed Prakash Joshi, further investigation revealed 3.36 grams of brown sugar (a form of heroin) and 35 tablets of Nitrazepam concealed in the belt. The dog used for smuggling was reportedly kept at Bhandari’s residence.

Police have taken both Bhandari and the dog into custody for further investigation.
