Dialogue committee says Biplav doesn’t want to hold talks

Kathmandu, December 27

The political dialogue committee formed to hold talks with disgruntled political groups says the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN didn’t agree to hold talks with it.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, the committee said that although it tried to talk with the splinter Maoist group, Chand and his allies were reluctant to do so. “Even though we tried to hold talks with Chand, there was no response from him. We even tried getting hold of the central members of his party who didn’t show any signs to take talks forward,” added committee member Som Prasad Pandey.

The panel also shared that it didn’t talk to CK Raut’s Alliance for Independent Madhesh (AIM) party because that wasn’t under its mandate.

The government had asked the panel to hold talks with various groups dissatisfied with the new constitution. The committee shared that it held talks with 23 different groups out of which three groups handed over their weapons to local authorities.
