Ruling Nepal Communist Party’s chief whip Dev Gurung has demanded that the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the capital gains tax of 2016 Ncell buyout deal be reviewed.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, Gurung said the verdict to invalidate the government tax office’s calculation of the CGT was wrong and it should be corrected.
He urged the government to file an appeal to the full bench seeking a review. Gurung reminded that the verdict contradicted a full bench verdict issued by the court in February this year.
Earlier, Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House had decided to study the verdict after some experts and stakeholders criticised it. Some members of the committee had demanded that the panel look into the issue.
