Details collection begins for Nepalis stranded in UAE transit

Kathmandu, March 4

The government has begun collecting details of Nepali nationals stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while in transit.

The data collection targets Nepalis who are currently in the UAE due to the prevailing situation while returning to Nepal or traveling onward to third countries. The Department of Consular Services has requested those stuck in the UAE, including individuals whose company visas have been canceled and who are facing difficulties while returning to Nepal to submit their details.

The department has urged affected individuals to provide their information through an online platform. Transit passengers stranded in the UAE have been asked to submit their details via an online portal or QR code. The portal has been launched to facilitate the rescue and assistance of Nepalis affected by the conflict between Iran and Israel–the United States.

According to Ramji Khadka, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 250 Nepalis are currently stranded in transit. He said the number could rise to as many as 1,000.

Based on information received from Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, approximately 250 Nepalis have been affected while in transit. Khadka stated that they are currently under the responsibility of the respective airlines, which will arrange either their return to Nepal or onward travel to their destinations.

Temporary arrangements for food and accommodation have been made until flights resume. Once air services reopen, efforts are underway to ensure they are sent to their destinations on a priority basis, he added.
