Telephone and internet services have been disrupted in parts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading following Wednesday’s devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River.
A total of 87 towers operated by Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell have been affected, disrupting communications in several parts of the three districts.
According to the latest details, 60 Nepal Telecom towers and 27 Ncell towers are currently not operational.
Flood damage to telecom infrastructure, coupled with disruptions to electricity supply, has affected both telephone and internet services in several areas.
Nepal Telecom spokesperson Dr Kamal Lamichhane said 152 NTC towers had stopped working immediately after the flood, but most have since been restored.
“Currently, 60 towers are affected,” he said. “Work is underway to repair them as quickly as possible, and technical teams have already been deployed.”
Nepal Telecom has also airlifted generators, batteries and other equipment by helicopter to the Nyaupanechaur and Ramche repeater sites to restore services in Rasuwa.
Lamichhane said services have been restored in areas including Kispang (Kaule), Thulegaun, Tadi, Fikuri, Kalikasthan, Grang, Dadagaun, Mailung, Pangsang Danda, Langtang and Kyangjin.
Generators, fuel and personnel have also been deployed to restore services in Dhunche.
In Nuwakot, teams have been deployed with generators and fuel to restore services in Madanpur, Battar and Bidur Bus Park. Similar efforts are underway at Baireni and Thamel Danda in Dhading.
Lamichhane said generators, fuel and personnel have been sent to priority sites in affected areas to bring them back into continuous operation.
The company is also working to improve coverage and capacity at BTS sites that remain operational to ensure more effective service.
According to NTC, five sites in Chitwan, 13 of 36 sites in Dhading, 31 of 79 sites in Nuwakot and 13 of 32 sites in Rasuwa have been affected.
Ncell said 27 towers across the three districts have been affected, while fibre connections have also been cut at several locations.
The company said it has already deployed technical teams to flood-affected areas by road and helicopter to restore services.
Ncell said it expects telephone and internet services to be restored in most affected areas by Thursday evening.
