Kathmandu, March 5

Although the government earlier decided to vaccinate all senior citizens above the age of 55 in the next phase of the Covid-19 vaccination from coming Sunday, the government revised its priority list at the eleventh hour.

Dipendra Raman Singh, the Department of Health Services Director-General, says now people above 65 will get the vaccines before anyone else from Sunday.

Although the government had announced to vaccinate teachers and public bus workers also in this phase, they will have to wait until the people aged 65 and more get their turns first.

This, however, will not apply to the mountainous region, according to Singh.

This change is due to the delay in receiving the second lot of one million Covishield vaccine doses from India’s Serum Institute. The first lot of what it has been buying has already arrived.

“The company should have sent the new lot by Wednesday as per the agreement, but it could not,” Singh says, “Now, we have been assured that it will arrive by Sunday.”
