Defence Minister, CoAS snub House panel’s meeting on irregularities in army

Kathmandu, March 5

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament on Thursday postponed its meeting scheduled for today after Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel and Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa did not show up.

The meeting was called to discuss some complaints that the committee received claiming there were some recent financial irregularities in the Nepal Army. The previous meeting of the committee had summoned the duo to be present at the committee today.

Following the postponement, the committee’s chairperson Shashi Shrestha directed Defence Secretary Reshmi Raj Pandey to convey the panel’s message to the minister.

Pandey and some officials of the army had gone to the meeting today. Despite their presence, the meeting could not proceed as the committee members said discussing the issue without the concerned minister and the army chief would be useless.
