Dates of foreign affairs minister Gyawali’s India trip uncertain

Kathmandu, December 13

Although it was reported a few days back that Nepal-India Joint Commission led by foreign affairs ministers of the neighbouring countries was holding a meeting in New Delhi on December 15-16, the meeting on those dates has turned unlikely of late.

Sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say the two countries have recently agreed to change the dates, but the new ones have been not finalised.

Nepal’s Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali is scheduled to New Delhi for the meeting.

India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava has also said Gyawali will visit India soon, adding exact dates are yet to be finalised.

Sources say the meeting is likely before the end of December anyway.

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had handed over Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s invitation to Gyawali during his two-day Nepal visit last month.

Meanwhile, the ministry says it is consulting stakeholders to finalise the agenda for the meeting.
