Quit Parliament if you don’t accept constitution, Baburam Bhattarai challenges Madheshi parties

Baburam-Bhattrai

Janakpurdham, April 17

Baburam Bhattarai, coordinator of Naya Shakti, said on Sunday that Madheshi forces should dare quit the Parliament if they have rejected Nepal’s new constitution.

Bhattarai, addressing a programme as part of Naya Shakti’s Madhesh awareness campaign in Dhanusha, accused Madheshi parties (lawmakers) of showing double standards by terming the constitution unacceptable and accepting allowances from the Parliament at the same time. If you truly want to launch a movement, then stop showing greed for allowances and come to the streets, Bhattarai challenged the parties and their lawmakers.

Bhattarai said Naya Shakti strives to run the affairs of the state in a new way.

Khas-Arya, Janajati and Madheshis should run the state taking turns, he said, adding: Proportionate representation is not enough. Leadership should also change.

Political parties were on course till the declaration of the republic, he said, adding: Now they are trying to collect returns from their contributions. The Nepali Congress is seeking returns for the contributions it made for the 1950’s democratic transformation, the CPN-UML is seeking dividends from the 1990’s transformation, whereas the UCPN-Maoist is seeking returns from the people’s war that it waged, Bhattarai noted.
