Strange case of Prachanda and Bhattarai

  • Bhattarai had parted ways with Prachanda 16 months ago and formed Naya Shakti Nepal
  • At a book launch, Prachanda and Bhattarai said historic achievements will be in jeopardy if they do not come together
  • They said coming together is the only way to safeguard these achievements
  • They said they have no beef. The two said they complement each other

Kathmandu, December 26

Sixteen months after leaving what is now the CPN-Maoist Centre, party Chair Prachanda and his former comrade-in-arms Baburam Bhattarai sat shoulder to shoulder. Not that alone, Prime Minister Prachanda and Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Bhattarai gave enough indications that they will come together, sooner or later.

At the launch of late Maoist leader and lawmaker Bhakti Pande’s book ‘Chachaji’ at Police Club, the two leaders said they complement each other, claiming that they can safeguard historic achievements only through unity.

The political situation is developing in such a way that coming together of the two of us has become inevitable.

Prachanda and Bhattarai said they have no personal issues and no enmity, adding that the political situation is developing in such a way that coming together of the two of us has become inevitable.

At the programme, Prachanda said: Right after promulgation of the Constitution, Baburamji parted ways hurriedly. Implementation of the Constitution is a major challenge at this juncture.

He added: The situation is such that we have no option but to come together.

There’s the risk of losing all those achievements if we do not stand together. So, there’s no alternative to unity between us.
