Dahal fears ‘reaction’ of regressive forces upon ‘failure to take action’

Kathmandu, September 5

Ruling Nepal Communist Party’s chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has commented that regressive forces could resort to their reaction if elected people’s representatives could not take action. He explains that the elected leaders should meet people’s expectations with their actions; otherwise, the regressive forces would try to get back to power.

Speaking at a function organised in Kathmandu on Thursday, the former prime minister said federal democratic republic and secularism were under attack of late under different names such as dissatisfactions on religion and other issues and interpreted them as ‘reactions’ of regressive forces.

“The people who were displaced from power through people’s movement and people’s war are getting active. We have given a message that all the parties are together, against them. But if the elected representatives could not meet people’s expectations through our action, they would give a reaction,” Dahal warned, “That would be costly.”

Former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Baburam Bhattarai were also present at the function.
