Curfew lifted in Jhapa town on fourth day

The Jhapa District Administration Office on Monday lifted the curfew clamped in Birtamod town of the district since Friday.

Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari says the prohibitory order has been lifted from 3 pm today after the situation came under control.

On Friday, a child was killed when police opened fire to contain the mob. Locals had staged demonstration demanding investigations into an alleged murder.

Around 40 persons had sustained injuries in multiple clashes.

Laxman Shiwakoti from Tinpaini, Arjundhara-11 was found dead in a puddle on the day of Badadashain Tika, September 30. The family had claimed he was murdered.

After locals intensified the demonstration demanding the probe on Friday, the administration clamped the curfew in the central market area of the town around Muktichok.
