Kathmandu, May 22

The ruling CPN-Maoist Centre has said it is satisfied with the results of the first phase of local level elections held last week.

Reviewing the party’s performance in the polls, the headquarters meeting of the party today concluded that the votes it got were as many as expected considering the ill-managed party organisation after its unification.

“We had hoped to win a bit more seats,” party spokesperson Pampha Bhusal told Onlinekhabar after the meeting, “But, the organisation was chaotic and weak after the unification.”

“But, we should be satisfied with what we got. Our agendas have been implemented,” she maintained, adding the party’s performance in the May 14 polls established foundations for its better performance in provincial and federal elections to be held later this year.

The party would make preparations to win as many positions as possible in the second phase of local polls scheduled for June 14, according to Bhusal.

Speaking at the meeting, party Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had said the party still held a strong public support.
