Kathmandu, April 27

The Ministry of Health and Population has complained that the country’s Covid-19 response has not been effective due to the human resource crunch.

The ministry’s Chief Expert Dr Roshan Pokharel says the Public Service Commission has not called for applications for the appointment of medical officers for the past four years. On the other hand, doctors are not interested to work for government hospitals on a contract basis.

Speaking in a meeting of the Education and Health Committee in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Pokharel said the ministry, however, did not have any problem with managing the budget for the appointments on a contract basis.

Meanwhile, Pokharel accepted that the ministry had not been able to coordinate well with the provincial social development ministries.
