A Nepal Army soldier accused of inflicting torture on a local to death in Chitwan National Park in July this year has been sent to custody until the final verdict on the case.
A single bench of judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi in the District Court ordered on Tuesday that Chiran Kumar Budha will stay in judicial custody. He has been accused of torturing a local who died after a few days.
Earlier on July 16, Raj Kumar Chepang (24), a resident of Rapti municipality-2, and six other locals were detained by the security personnel on the charge of entering the park illegally. They were released on the same day, but the soldiers had reportedly beaten them harshly. Chepang had died seven days after the incident.
Following the incident, the deceased’s father, Bishnu Lal, had filed a complaint against the soldier at the District Police Office. Budha, however, was arrested on September 20 only.
The government attorney office has demanded a life imprisonment for him.
