Court bans Indian three-wheelers’ operation in Rautahat

Rautahat, November 24

The Janakpur High Court has ordered the government to restrict three-wheelers registered in India from their operation in Rautahat district of southern Nepal.

Though illegal, the vehicles had been carrying passengers across the border for many years.

In response to a writ filed by a Nepali transport entrepreneur, the division bench of judges Satya Mohan Joshi Tharu and Bir Bahadur Dangi ordered the ban.

The court observed that the three-wheelers were not paying customs as required by the country’s law.

Rautahat Chief District Officer, Kiran Thapa, says the District Administration Office is studying how the order can be implemented. He also demands cooperation from local political parties for the implementation.
