Kathmandu, March 10

The government of Nepal on Monday decided to halt issuing on-arrival visas for the citizens of three more countries in view of the severity of novel coronavirus infection in those countries. The decision is a part of the government bid to protect itself from the global epidemic.

The Department of Immigration says the citizens of France, Germany, and Spain cannot obtain on-arrival visas till the next notice. The decision will be implemented from Tuesday onwards. Earlier last week, the government had decided to temporarily bar the citizens of China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Italy from obtaining on-arrival visas.

Previous to this, only the citizens from 12 countries affected by civil wars and other terrorist activities had been barred from this facility.

If the citizens from the listed eight countries wish to visit Nepal, they have to obtain visas from the Nepali missions located in the respective countries, clarifies the department.

Meanwhile, the department also made it compulsory for the people travelling from and through those countries to obtain a medical certificate, at most seven days before arriving in Nepal, proving that they are not infected with the virus. The certificate will be checked at the international airport in Kathmandu.

The government has also notified that the nationals of the listed countries can enter Nepal via the Kathmandu airport only and other entry points will be temporarily suspended from them.
