Pampha Bhusal, spokesperson for the CPN-Maoist Centre, said on Sunday the Prachanda government will table the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Parliament on Monday.

Bhusal told journalists in Kathmandu: The government is preparing to move ahead by reaching an understanding with eight opposition parties, including the main opposition CPN-UML, as far as possible.

Throughout Sunday, Prime Minister will hold discussions with the UML for a deal, Bhusal said. If there’s no deal, PM will push the relevant constitutional process ahead, she said. According to Bhusal, the government is preparing to push the Bill ahead during the Parliament meeting set to begin on Monday.

Bhusal said: PM is making a last-ditch effort to move ahead together. That is why, he is busy in internal discussions.

Our party neither wants to anger opposition parties nor does it want to rile agitated parties (Madheshi Morcha), Bhusal said, adding: Together, we introduced the Constitution, we should implement it together. If that is not possible, PM wants to move ahead by reaching an understanding on the constitutional process.

She said: The Constitution amendment proposal is in the Parliament. Unlike what the United Democratic Madheshi Front has demanded, the government will not withdraw the Bill registered in the Parliament for amendment. We will discuss the issue once the relevant process starts.
