Constitution amendment bill tabled amid UML’s silence

Kathmandu, April 24

The government on Monday tabled the Constitution amendment bill it had registered around two weeks ago in Parliament.

The main opposition party CPN-UML, which has warned of making the bill a failure, did not protest while Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Shankar Nayak tabled the bill.

However,  UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has already told House that his party cannot accept the bill.

Three lawmakers of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party protested by chanting slogans while Minister Nayak tabled the bill.

Meanwhile, the Parliament meeting has given lawmakers 72 hours to file amendments to the bill.

In order to effect the changes in accordance with the agreement that the ruling parties and the agitating Madheshi Morcha made on Saturday,  lawmakers of the ruling parties are expected to file the amendments.
